Is magnesium important for children and adolescents?

In children and youths, too, attention must be paid to a sufficient supply of magnesium because of the massive growth that they undergo. In addition to leading to optimal physical development, magnesium has a beneficial influence on concentration and mental performance of children and adolescents.

With increasing age, physical activity and hence food intake decrease. Nevertheless, the magnesium requirement stays unaltered at a high level. At the same time, foodstuffs that are rich in magnesium, such as legumes, are avoided because these are often difficult to digest.
